My take-aways from the NAHSS adventure

By Ferdinand Hamer | Delegate NAHSS 2024

One of the highlights of the NAHSS for me was the hands-on professional experience. Getting the chance to work directly with notable organizations and apply what I had been learning during the different NAHSS events in a practical, real-world setting was incredible. This experience helped me grow both professionally and personally. It’s rare to get that kind of opportunity during your bachelor studies.

What made the NAHSS stand out even more to me were the people I met along the way. The delegation, my project group and our coach, the board, the staff in Asia... Everyone involved was not only knowledgeable but also inspiring. We had so many deep and thought-provoking discussions, which weren’t just about academics. These conversations made me reflect on my own perspectives and aspirations. I came away from it feeling like I had grown as a person, which I didn’t fully expect going in.

Lastly, experiencing the rich and diverse Asian cultures firsthand was something truly special. It’s one thing to read and hear about these places, but living it, and seeing how people approach life and do business in these countries, added a deeper level of understanding to these cultures. NAHSS granted me a point of view that I wouldn’t have gotten any other way. The personal connections and cultural experiences have stayed with me and I know they’ll continue to influence how I approach both my studies and my future career. So for anyone looking to challenge themselves and see the world from a new perspective, I can’t recommend this program enough.
